Pile Repair at Firebaugh and Buttonwillow Bridges
Project Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to extend the service life of four existing bridges by repairing their corroded steel shell piers. The corroded steel shell piers will be encased with reinforced concrete from top of the pier to 4 feet below the mudline at three canal bridges in Fresno County and one canal bridge in Kern County. The four bridges to be rehabilitated are the Colony Main Canal Bridge (No. 42-0031), Helm Canal Bridge (No. 42-0033), Poso Canal Bridge (No. 42-0034) and Main Drain Canal Bridge (No. 50-0013).

Purpose
The purpose of the project is to perform preventative maintenance at four bridges:
- #1 Poso Canal Bridge (No. 42-0034) at post mile 70.63
- #2 Helm Canal Bridge (No. 42-0033) at post mile 72.81
- #3 Colony Main Canal Bridge (No. 42-0031) at post mile 75.95 on State Route 33
- #4 Main Drain Canal Bridge (No. 50-0013) at post mile 27.82 on State Route 58
Need
The project is needed to ensure that the bridges maintain functionality and to reduce the need for continual maintenance.
